The St. Thomas of Canterbury Quiz Bowl Team. Back Row (left to right): Rodas, Natnael, Robel, Monfaye, Raymond, Erika, Efrem, Mukthar, Chelsea, Davin, Yonas, Roshni, Brittany, Vivian. Front Row (left to right): Ewemade, Seth, Caroline, Alicia, Malak, Louis

So far this year we have entered three competitions.

DeLasalle Institute: 36 Teams
In our first competition we split the team into four groups. St. Thomas tied for first place and lost by a flip of a coin. Teams 2, 3 and 4 competed for second, third and fourth place and Caroline, Alicia, Ewemade and Malak won Fourth.

St. Ignatius: 26 Teams
We split the team into two groups. This time we did not have any 8th graders as they had to take the MAP test. In the morning rounds, St. Thomas won all four games they played and so entered the finals with seven other teams. We lost the first round and came in somewhere between fifth and eighth.

Loyola Academy: 26 Teams
This was our first official NAQT tournament. NAQT was founded in 1996 by a group of former players who are now college professors, high school teachers, lawyers, engineers, software developers, physicians, and research scientists who make time to promote and improve the fast-paced question-and-answer game. NAQT provides a standardized, nationwide competition format that is open to all middle schools, high schools, and colleges.

We split the team into three groups: St. Thomas of Canterbury A, B and C. The A team (Yonas, Natnael, Mukthar, Efrem, Caroline, Robel and Louis) came in second place with six wins and two losses.

Louis won first place as the top individual scorer out of 179 students.  Seth won fourth place in individual rankings in the Junior Varsity bracket out of 75 students.

Finally, as second place winners our team has qualified to play in the nationals in Atlanta, Georgia! Congratulations, Quiz Bowl Team!
